Individual Counseling

Individual therapy allows us space to focus on your specific goals for treatment. During your initial intake session, we will collaboratively work toward creating a roadmap in helping you to navigate from where you are to where you’d like to go. I consider it a privilege to support people in their journey as they continue to better understand their life story, always honoring the uniqueness of each person. Together we will make decisions about the frequency of your sessions as well as the anticipated time frame depending on what you are needing.

Specializations Include:

Anxiety, depression, trauma & PTSD, family conflict, relationship issues, transitioning to independence, self-esteem, coping skills, spirituality, alcohol use

Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Nature Therapy/Walk & Talk

Does part of sitting in an office for your appointments not appeal to you? If so, I offer walk and talk sessions where we do just that! I am able to meet with clients in more casual settings such as parks or trails where we are able to discuss your goals and progress while walking outdoors. Nature therapy, also known as ecotherapy takes this a step farther in integrating the many benefits of connecting with nature. Research has shown that spending time in nature and the outdoors can improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety and  promote relaxation. Whether you are a well seasoned outdoors enthusiast or curious about trying something completely new to you, I would be glad to walk alongside you.

In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy modality often used in the treatment of traumatic experience and its many impacts as well as other troubling life events. Developed in the 1980’s by Francine Shapiro, EMDR has evolved to also treat conditions such as anxiety and depression. This particular therapy integrates the use of bilateral stimulation through use of eye movements, tapping or sound, all of which can help the brain to reprocess information and maladaptive beliefs as well as to reduce emotional distress. Trauma and other challenging experiences can cause the brain to become stuck in a state of hyperarousal, making it difficult for many people to “just get over it.” Depending on the individual and their response, EMDR is a comparatively brief and non-invasive form of mental health therapy which can be facilitated on its own or in conjunction with other types of treatment.

Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or able to resist, all move in a positive direction.
